Need some virtual date night ideas? Being in the house alone doesn’t mean you have to disconnect from your friends and loved ones.
Actually, this is a great time to reconnect with the people you love most. With texting, phone calls, social media, and video calling, you have the opportunity to do all the things you enjoy with each other—even if you’re from a distance. Here are 10 virtual date night ideas for your girls or your boo.
Have a movie night
Binge-watching all your favorite movies and shows are almost always better when you have family and friends to share the experience with.
While you might not be able to sit right next to each other and pass snacks back and forth at this time, you can still press play on your favorite movie and enjoy each other’s company over the phone.
You can keep it simple and do a “1-2-3 start!” or if you’re more tech-savvy, there are browser extensions like Netflix Party where you can sign in to your Netflix account and host a synchronized playback and group chat with long-distance friends and family members.
Do some cooking together
When you really think about it, cooking and eating together plays a big part in how we connect with the important people in our life.
Whether it’s catching up with our girls over brunch a few times a month or having a nice dinner to celebrate a special occasion with your significant other, meals have a way of bringing us together with the people we care about the most.
Cooking together has a similar ability to connect us through quality time and conversation, which makes it a great bonding activity. Pick a recipe, make a phone call or hop on Facetime, and get to cooking. And if you just so happen to be hanging out in the house with your favorite people—even better.
Download new game apps
Most of us play our apps by ourselves or with random opponents, but now would actually be a great time to play games that have multiplayer features so you can play with or against your friends.
You can play both classic and newly popular games such as Scrabble, Monopoly, Uno, Fortnite Mobile, Minecraft, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds for free or cheap. The best part is that most of these game apps can be found in any app store and most of them even work cross-platform, meaning that they can be played between iPhone and android with no problem.
Try Farm Together
I must admit, this one is all me! I am obsessed with the game Farm Together! It is one of the few games where you aren’t asked to complete some difficult task or defeat the bad guys—you just create and relax.
You and your friends can grow crops, plant trees, care for farm animals, customize and decorate the farm, unlock hundreds of items to elevate your farming experience, and even build a house and enjoy some indoor activities such as cooking and painting. Farm Together is all about simple farm living and leisure and provides a perfectly-timed mental escape and way to unwind.
The game is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and can be played online on the Steam gaming platform.
Virtual yoga (and other workouts)
With gyms and fitness centers being closed in most places, getting in a good workout is a little more complex these days—especially if you’re used to working out in groups.
One great thing about the internet is that there are tons of platforms that offer virtual workouts, both live and recorded.
One great home workout you can do with your friends is virtual yoga. Not only is it something you and a whole group can follow together or from the comfort of your own homes, but it’s also apartment and small-space friendly.
Virtual Date Night Listening Party
This is great for your boo or for your girls, but basically you get an album that you all have not listened to and turn your living room into the main stage for an amazing dance party. The rules are, nobody can listen to any of the songs prior to the listening party so you can have genuine reactions.
Club Quarantine With D-Nice or any Other DJ You Want To Support
Every weekend and most weeknights since the start of the shelter in place protocols D-Nice and other well-known DJs like Quest Love have been hosting virtual dance parties playing all of our favorite tunes. Just like the listening party above you can transform your living room into an actual club and have fun with all of your friends on Zoom.

Play dinner-delivery roulette
This potential partner already knows plenty about you, and you’d invite them over if you could. Instead, exchange addresses for a surprise takeout night that also helps support a local business.
Set a time for delivery, and schedule your favorite local dish to land on their doorstep. Watching them unbox and enjoy your favorite food—and you, theirs—is perfect whether you’re a plate-sharer or not.
Get deep
Maybe you’re a big Brene Brown fan, or you’re just running low on ways to get deeper while distanced. The “36 Questions That Lead to Love”, published in 2015, is the best conversational road map to connect with your virtual date.
Find out their dream superpower, gaze into their eyes, and start to envision what your future partnership might look like. Romantic, intellectual, and inspiring, this exercise is a must for all couples from the fifth date to 50 years together.
