On June 24, the United States Supreme Court overturned the landmark abortion case ruling Roe V. Wade in a 6-3 decision.
The consequences of this ruling are dire and immediate: Trigger bans in 13 states deny women their reproductive freedom, with at least 13 others poised to enforce stricter restrictions if not outright bans – Texas and Louisiana have already banned abortions.
This not only sets women back decades but also renders us powerless and puts millions of women’s reproductive health at risk if they aren’t legally able to have an abortion at a licensed clinic. Having the right to safe, affordable abortions should not be political but a fundamental human right.
Fortunately, there are numerous individuals, communities, and brands uniting to join in the protest, share resources on social media, and donate to local abortion rights organizations.
Below, we curated a list of the beauty brands showing their support for women’s reproductive rights by donating their profits to various pro-choice causes.
Everyday Humans
The award-winning WOC-founded beauty brand was created for all humans, and reproductive health freedom is a human right.
To support the cause, Everyday Human (as stated in a letter from the founder Charlotte) vows to donate 5% from all sales of their brand-new Take Five Reviving Aloe Mist to Planned Parenthood through July.
Billie
From day one, the popular razor and body care brand has celebrated and championed women’s rights to make their own body and health choices.
As such, Billie (known for prioritizing inclusivity) has vowed to donate $100,000 to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) to help provide resources to those fighting to protect human rights. They also encouraged their followers and consumers to do the same.
OUAI
OUAI, a healthcare and wellness brand that has long been vocal about different social issues, vowed to raise some cash for the fundraising campaign, Keep Our Clinics.
In a recent Instagram post, the company wrote, “70% of us are women, and the other 30% are men that support the right for women to make our own choices about health and wellbeing.”
OUAI also pledged a $15,000 donation to back Planned Parenthood and promised that for every like the post (that reads ‘Abortions are Healthcare’) gets, they’ll donate an extra $1.
E.l.f Cosmetics
E.l.f Cosmetics vowed to donate $25,000 to Planned Parenthood on Instagram, adding that the beauty brand is dedicated to standing with a woman’s right to choose while also supporting reproductive healthcare access for all.
E.l.f also promised to match any employee donation amount and cover travel and lodging costs to offer its employees full access to reproductive healthcare services.
Boy Smells
Fragrance Company Boy Smells has always been committed to social justice, a mission they aim to continue supporting through their efforts to help those affected by the SCOTUS ruling.
The brand pledged a $5,000 donation to Planned Parenthood, saying it’s the first step of many in the fight for reproductive healthcare justice.
Rhode Skin
Even though the official ruling came days after Rhode Skin was launched, Hailey Bieber didn’t waste time offering resources and funding assistance.
Rhode Skin vowed to donate to reproductive health initiatives such as the AFIYA Center, Plan C, and The National Network of Abortion Funds. She also included a list of digital, financial, and medical resources for those seeking safe, affordable reproductive healthcare services.
Pattern Beauty
The haircare company, founded by Mixed-ish actress Tracee Ellis Ross, was appalled by the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe V. Wade and vowed to donate to Planned Parenthood to ensure equal access to reproductive healthcare, assistance, and support nationwide.
Benefit Cosmetics
The beauty brand – which has had a flourishing partnership with Planned Parenthood for years (through its Bold Is Beautiful Project) – tripled down on its pledge to support abortion rights. “Reproductive rights are healthcare rights. Period!” the beauty company shared on Instagram.
The makeup brand then encouraged its followers and consumers to take action by donating and registering to vote.
Glow Recipe
Founded and led by two powerful women, the fan-favorite skincare brand vows to use their platform and voice to fight injustices and stand with women everywhere, hoping to live in a safe space again – where women can effortlessly make choices about their own bodies, circumstances, and health.
Tatcha
The Japanese beauty and skincare company has committed to offering its employees comprehensive reproductive health benefits.
As part of its healthcare benefits package, Tatcha will also cover travel expenses for US employees whose reproductive health rights are no longer supported by their home state.
You, too, can contribute to the cause by joining in the fight through peaceful protests or donating to abortion rights organizations such as the National Abortion Federation, Planned Parenthood, The National Network of Abortion Funds, & Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRRAP).
