Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter is undeniably successful, spending its second weekend at the top of the Billboard 200.
According to Billboard, there’s more to come.
On April 18, streaming platform Max announced a new Queen Bey documentary titled Call Me Country: Beyonce & Nashville’s Renaissance.
And we don’t have long to wait; the doc will come out on Friday, April 26.
What Is Beyonce’s Upcoming Documentary About?
The upcoming documentary will show how Black musicians like Beyonce and Lil Nas X have impacted the country’s contemporary country music scene.
The doc also notes how their contributions tie in to Black musicians in Nashville.
Earlier this year, the singer made history by releasing “Texas Hold ‘Em,” a country song that debuted during the Super Bowl.
Despite some early resistance from gatekeepers, the track stormed to the top of Hot Country Songs, making Queen Bey the first Black woman to do so.
After the surprise hit, a spotlight shone on other Black women in country music.
Call Me Country will have interviews with:
- Grammy-winning country duo Brothers Osborne
- “Texas Hold ‘Em” banjo player Rhiannon Giddens
- Rissi Palmer
- Aaron Vance
- Denitia
- Cultural critics
- Country music experts like Touré
- Tanner D
Cowboy Carter came out on March 29 with a mammoth 27 tracks that paid homage to country music’s Black roots.
The album included collabos with several Black country stars like:
- Tanner Adell
- Brittney Spencer
- Reyna Roberts
- Tiera Kennedy
- Shaboozey
- Willie Jones
The album also has interludes from country legends Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, making it one of the hottest country albums of the year (if not the century).
