Bill Cosby is facing a fresh lawsuit from a singer who claims that the actor drugged and raped her in the late 80s.
According to paperwork filed under the Adult Survivors Act by plaintiff Morganne Picard alleges that Bill Cosby, 86, invited the aspiring musician to the set of The Cosby Show in 1987, when she claimed that he “insisted and encouraged” her to drink beverages that made her feel “extremely intoxicated” on “multiple occasions” between then and 1990.
Picard alleges Bill Cosby used his “power, fame, and prestige” to sexually assault her. The international performer also named Kaufman Astoria Studios, the Carsey-Werner Company, and NBC Universal Media in the lawsuit.
Picard first met Bill Cosby after the comedian invited her to the set of The Cosby Show in 1987, as per the court documents. She got close to Cosby and his wife and explained that she viewed the comedian as a “father figure.”
However, the international artist said Cosby would often coax her into consuming alcoholic beverages and she would “black out on multiple occasions.”
Picard alleges that she was blacked out and raped after consuming a beverage from the comedian at his home, and later woke up “naked with soreness in her vagina” in a hotel room.
“Upon information and belief, when Ms. Picard was physically incapacitated by the unknown intoxicant, Cosby undressed and raped her, without her consent and when she did not have the capacity to consent,” the lawsuit alleges.
Picard further alleges that the co-defendants, Kaufman Astoria Studios, Astoria Studios LP II, the Carsey-Warner Company, and NBC Universal, “enabled and aided” Bill Cosby’s sexual assaults, in order to continue financially benefitting from the comedian.
She claims the firms either knew or should have known about the actor’s behavior and therefore are also liable.
“Today was the first step towards obtaining some measure of justice for Ms. Picard,” the singer’s attorney, Jordan Rutsky, informed Fox News Digital.
“We want to thank New York State for passing the Adult Survivors Act, which allows Ms. Picard and other people who were sexually abused as adults to bring a civil lawsuit until November 23, 2023, regardless of when the abuse occurred,” he continued.
“We look forward to holding Mr. Cosby and his enablers responsible for their actions.”
Cosby’s attorney, Andrew Wyatt, denied the new allegations in a statement to Fox News Digital writing, “It is disappointing to see that these alleged distractors are able to monetize false allegations against Mr. Cosby.”
“The Merson Law Firm along with these alleged distractors are fueling false narratives for the potential of media fame and greed,” Wyatt added.
“Mr. Cosby continues to invoke his Constitutional Rights by saying, “Not Guilty” and vehemently denying all of these alleged allegations waged against him.”
Bill Cosby was first convicted of sexual assault in 2018 but was later acquitted following three years of incarceration. His release from prison occurred in October 2021 after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court invalidated his convictions, citing an agreement made by his predecessor’s prosecutor not to pursue charges against him.
