Spending your whole day in the salon just to get your hair done can be tedious, especially if you have other things to do.
That’s where Dana White comes in.
She is the CEO and founder of Paralee Boyd, a walk-in-only hair salon franchise that significantly cuts down on the time it takes to serve customers. The idea is unique, and it has caught on in a big way.
Dana owns two salons in Detroit, but she has decided to launch a national rollout through franchising. This has just made her the first and only Black woman in American history to do so.
Her Inspiration
Like many women, Dana had become frustrated by spending a full day in the salon just to get her hair done. She had also grown tired of balancing an appointment with her schedule and paying a high price for a stylist’s reputation instead of quality of hair care she received.
“I opened Paralee Boyd to solve for a problem that women with thick and curly hair were facing everywhere,” White said. “I wanted to create a space that provided quality hair care, was timely, and committed to customer service.”
And thus, the journey began.
A Salon Tailored to Its Clients
In 2012, Dana opened Paralee Boyd to create a space for women that focused on helpful customer service, was timely, and offered top-notch hair care.
“Oh how I wish I could go back and tell that new entrepreneur all that I know now.” Dana said. “I would tell her that there are going to be days you want to quit. There are mistakes you’re going to make, but keep going.”
At first glance, its services might not seem that different from other salons: its services include treatments, styling, and add-ons like rinsing and using CBD oil.
However, where it stands out is how it respects each customer’s time. Paralee Boyd borrows tech principles from the automotive industry like lean manufacturing. It also uses data-driven processes to minimize time wastage.
The result is that women spend a lot less time in the salon while still getting quality treatment. Furthermore, the cost is reasonable: clients pay for the quality service, not for the name or reputation of the stylist.
Paralee Boyd is precisely the kind of salon most working women need. By offering fast and efficient service, it frees up the rest of your day to do anything else that you would otherwise have had to delay or cancel.
