Doja Cat has expressed her frustration with individuals comparing the texture of her hair to pubic hair.
During a recent Instagram Live session with fans over the weekend, the rapper addressed the comments in her social media about her hair, particularly in the cover art for her upcoming single “MASC.”
Doja mentioned that people have been making comparisons between her hair and pubic hair, among other things, and she believes it’s time for them to let go of that topic.
“My hair is 4C hair, which a lot of you don’t care, that’s fine, but I’m seeing a consistent pattern in my comment section of people saying is my hair pubic hair, is it carpet or is it sheep’s wool,” Doja said. “We gotta move forward. Let’s move forward. Let’s grow.”

Doja’s hairstylist added to the conversation, responding to negative comments on the Neighborhood Talk blog.
He said:
Doja does and has always loved her thick kinky curly texture. She’s voiced time and time again that the only frustration she’s ever had was learning how to maintain her natural hair when it was longer – which is why she became a wig girl – convenience- which is something most of the blk & brown women on this post and majority of my own clientele can relate to.
Since she shaved her head 2 years ago she’s grown an even deeper love for her texture becuase now she’s been able to experiment with colors, different cuts, curly hair products, and has learned how to style and maintain it all on her own. – which was always the goal.
She has never hated her hair, her texture, her skin color, ethnicity, or whatever else a lot of miserable people have claimed her to dislike about her self.
She knows she’s beautiful with and without a wig – and is also one of the few mainstream artists of our generation who WANTS to showcase her short natural hair on red carpets, In music videos and at high fashion events UNAPOLOGETICALLY. The think pieces are old and I hope this year we can move past that narrative. ✨
Doja’s upcoming single “MASC” marks her first release since her fourth studio album, Scarlet, dropped in September 2023. In February, she hinted at a deluxe edition of Scarlet called S2: Clause Frollo but did not reveal the release date. She also teased a possible tracklist for the deluxe edition, including songs like “Acknowledge Me,” “Headhigh,” “Gang,” “Rider,” “Urrrge!!!!,” and “Hungry.”
“I feel like it connects to the story of Scarlet in some degree and if you look up his personality traits and who he is and his story, you’ll understand the whole connection. There’s a control aspect — he just abuses his power and his control,” she explained in an interview on the Therapy Gecko podcast. “There’s nothing anything very personal happening to me with one person. Claude Frollo doesn’t depict a single person in my life. It’s like a metaphor for the people that creatives endure on a daily basis.”
