Davlyn Mosley used to be a Google tech executive.
However, she changed her trajectory thanks to her mom, who was a dermatologist.
From Google To The Beauty Industry
Having an outstanding job at Google is nothing to sneeze at.
However, Mosley’s upbringing influenced her career change.
Mosley had hypersensitive skin and learned how to treat it from her mom, a board-certified dermatologist.
She founded Namesake Skincare, a line of dermatologist-approved Black-centric skincare essentials.
After seeing how most beauty influencers offered 10-20 steps in their skincare routine videos, the former Google exec wanted to provide a simpler and faster way to radiant, healthy skin.
Mosley realized that the industry couldn’t access succinct and expert-backed skincare information.
So, she made Namesake Skincare an educational resource for anyone who feels overwhelmed or confused by skin care.
Following in Her Mom’s Footsteps
Mosley’s unrivaled grasp of simple skincare routines comes from her mom, Dr. Lynn McKinley-Grant.
And Namesake Skincare is Mosley’s ode to her mom.
When she grew up, Mosley didn’t focus on beauty; however, it naturally came to her.
When Mosley attended college, she started to appreciate art and beauty.
She also started spending time at her mom’s office, asking questions and offering to help.
Mosley also started to offer solutions to friends with skin issues.
So, according to Mosley’s mom, the former Google executive’s decision to launch a skincare brand that caters to Black people isn’t unusual.
Dr. McKinley-Grant is also the skincare line’s Advisor, which has helped her stay updated with skincare brands, products, ingredients, and trends.
The mother-daughter duo crafted an effective skincare product formula by learning about what works and doesn’t.
The former Google executive and her mom spent nearly two years developing the formula for their daily moisturizer.
They constantly checked that their ingredients wouldn’t cause adverse effects on users.
Through this process, Mosley learned a ton about the qualities of skincare ingredients.
Namesake Skincare has existed for one year, and Mosley is excited about forming partnerships with like-minded brands and content creators.
For a skincare line this effective, Namesake Skincare will have no shortage of partners.
