When we hear that our favorite Black celebrity couples have broken, we often go through a range of emotions: sadness, shock, discouragement, and more.
However, we are always optimistic when they get back together.
After all, it’s not easy to let go of a relationship that’s lasted for years, if not decades.
But in the case of these celebrity couples, breaking up the first time was the right choice; when they got back together, things only got worse.
And sometimes, getting back together shows that you have to move on without regrets; a fresh start for both parties is sometimes the best way forward.
Crystal Renay and Ne-Yo
Crystal Renay and Ne-Yo started dating in 2014.
By 2016, they had married and started a family.
But after being together for several years, Crystal filed for divorce in 2020.
Four months later, though, Ne-Yo announced they were back together and working things out.
Things worked for a while as the pair renewed their vows in early 2022.
However, they separated again in August after Crystal accused Ne-Yo of cheating and lying.
In an Instagram post, Crystal announced their separation and that Ne-Yo had caused her heartache and wasted years.
Malaak Compton Rock and Chris Rock
Malaak Compton Rock was married to Chris Rock for over 20 years, and they had two kids together.
As one of our favorite Black celebrity couples, we were shocked when Chris filed for divorce in 2006.
They tried again, but things didn’t work out, and the divorce was finalized in 2016.
During one of his shows, Chris Rock revealed that he’d cheated on Malaak and didn’t listen to her.
Lala and Carmelo Anthony
Lala and Carmelo Anthony were among our favorite high-profile celebrity couples.
However, Anthony cheated on Lala and even got another woman pregnant.
After being together for seven years, Lala filed for divorce in 2017.
However, Anthony persuaded her to try again; in December 2018, they got back together to work on their problems.
But Anthony made more poor choices, and Lala had no choice but to file for divorce in 2021.
Actress and TV personality Lala recently revealed that leaving the marriage was among the most challenging things she’s done.
Shaunie Henderson and Shaquille O’Neal
NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and Basketball Wives star Shaunie Henderson were among the highest-profile Black celebrity couples.
So, when the relationship soured, news spread like wildfire.
Despite having four kids and being married for seven years, Shaunie filed for divorce in 2007.
After some persuasion, they tried to work things out.
But Shaunie filed for divorce once more in 2009.
And when you hear Shaq’s explanation, you can’t blame her.
The NBA Hall of Famer admitted that he was a serial cheater during their marriage.
Shaunie has married again to Pastor Keion Henderson, while Shaq hasn’t; she was probably the one who got away.
Sherlita Patton and Big Boi
Sherlita Patton and Big Boi were among the longest-surviving Black celebrity couples.
However, after two decades of marriage, Sherlita filed for divorce in 2013.
They got back together in 2014, and it seemed like they’d worked things out.
However, the pair separated and started living separately, and rapper Big Boi eventually filed for divorce in April 2022.
By June, they had finalized the divorce.
These Black Celebrity Couples Broke Our Hearts
We always rooted for these Black celebrity couples because of how much love they had for each other when together.
However, things don’t always work out.
And famous Black husbands tend to cheat repeatedly, unfortunately—even powerful couples like Jay-Z and Beyonce.
We hope that after separating, both parties learned things about themselves and became stronger.
We also hope other celebrity couples will stay together because love is such a beautiful thing and we often look up to them.
