After starring in a bunch of drama and action films, Jonathan Majors is ready to diversify his portfolio by playing the lead in a romantic comedy with Issa Rae.
The pair presented together on Saturday (Feb 25) at the 2023 NAACP Image Awards, and it was evident they have good chemistry.
“Issa, I love nights like this. We all get to get together, it’s one of those rare times. It’s beautiful. Issa and I —” Majors said before Issa interrupted him with a ‘what’s your sign’ question. This led them into a funny bit about astrology (Majors is a Virgo, Issa a Capricorn), which is why he’s such a good, bad guy that she was rooting for in “Quantumania.”
Even the NAACP Image Awards social media team thought they’d make magic together because they captioned a photo of the two with “somebody write the script.”

Then on Sunday (Feb 26), in an interview with Variety, Majors was asked if he’d ever be interested in making a romantic comedy, possibly with the Insecure creator, and he offered a plot that would be perfect for their matchup.
The Lovecraft Country star pitched: “I think we should definitely do the, like, we grew up together, and then I come back home, and it’s like ‘Oh, okay.’ We can start with that. And then we gotta do— I wanna do the run through Central Park, you know what I mean?”
“A run through Central Park, chasing her to the airport, trying to be there at the airport. She said she’s going to the airport, then book it. … Say we live in Harlem, then we’ve got Central Park, going down, then you’re running through LaGuardia trying to find [her].”
“Issa, let’s do it. You wanna do it? Let’s do it,” he added to the camera.
Majors then revealed that that style of presenting at the NAACP Image Awards was a first for him. “She {Issa} was fabulous, and I just kind of…I mean, it’s Issa Rae. You can’t drop the ball.”

For the record, the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Creed III star was also spotted backstage with Janelle Monáe, which kicked off another round of “make it happen” comments – and if you ask us, either pairing would be perfect for another Love, Jones-like romcom.
