Kiko Davis is a Black woman who’s making bank. She is the majority stockholder and owner of First Independence Bank, based in Detroit.
This is one of the 10 biggest banks in the United States owned by African Americans. Consequently, this makes Kiko the only Black woman nationwide to own a bank.
She acquired the stock as a Donald Davis Living Trust trustee.
The Trust gets its name from her husband, who is also Groovesville Productions & Publishing’s managing director.
In a 2018 interview with Rolling Out, she revealed that what makes her a unique African American female leader is how she can inspire a whole culture of synergy and how she makes genuine connections to people.
She learned that when people feel like their leaders are passionate about them, they tend to offer their very best.
What Inspires Her?
Kiko found inspiration from a worthy source: Shirley Chisolm, who became the country’s first Black congresswoman and the first Black candidate in a major party to run for President.
Currently, her biggest inspiration is her 12-year-old daughter, Skye. Kiko raised her to be intelligent, independent, strong, and courageous.
Since she was 3, Skye has dreamed of being a judge. Now, she plans to attend Yale or Harvard and become a Supreme Court Justice.
Skye constantly keeps Kiko on her toes, and the mom constantly has to perform at her highest level.
Her Advice
Kiko encourages others to not fear failure. In fact, she wants one to fail as much as possible, because, with each failure, one will learn a valuable lesson that’s impossible to teach.
Each lesson also grants one strength, perseverance, and wisdom. In her experience, most successful people have failed multiple times.
She also believes in collaboration over competition. No matter how good someone is, Kiko believes that they can only win with a great team around them.
This increases their success rate as they work in unison towards common goals.

To Kiko, no matter where you come from or how many people tell you that you can’t do something, it’s up to you to determine your destiny.
