The Queen of Sass is back folks! Even though it’s just for one night.
According to Variety, Kim Cattrall is set to reprise her iconic role as Samantha Jones on the Season 2 finale of the Sex and the City spinoff series, And Just Like That.
But she will only appear in one scene.
According to sources of the news outlet, Cattrall shot her dialogue on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or chatting with the show’s stars, including Sarah Jessica Parker, or with the And Just Like That showrunner Michael Patrick King.
This development comes as a surprising twist, given that Cattrall, who played the sex-positive, influential publicist Samantha Jones in Sex and the City for six seasons and two movie spinoffs, famously did not make an appearance in the first season of the reboot.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2016, Cattrall said she hated disappointing her fans but wasn’t sure what her next story would be.
“I hate to be a spoilsport, but what would the next story be?”
“Whether you liked it or not, the reality is, authentically — there were no alternative facts here! — there was backlash. The reality of what [a third movie] would be — there’s nothing concrete. There’s no script, there’s no idea,” she said at the time.
In reaction to her decision – her fellow co-stars – Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and the late Willie Garson said they were saddened by the news.
“It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie,” Sarah Jessica Parker told Extra.
Then in 2017, Cattrall decided she would never play Samantha again, adding that she has never been close to Parker, Davis, or Cynthia Nixon and that the show prevented her from having kids.
Then again in May last year, the 66-year-old told Variety that she was never asked to be part of the spinoff and found out about it “like everyone else did – on social media.”
