If you’ve been considering sliding into La La Anthony’s DMs, you’ll have to go through her 15-year-old son first.
Appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show Wednesday, the mother of one shared that her son Kiyan is very “protective” of her and doesn’t really care for her dating. La La shares Kiyan with her ex, Carmelo Anthony.
“How does he feel about you dating?” Jhud asked La La.
“He doesn’t like it. He doesn’t like it at all,” La La said. “And I’m like, ‘So you just want your mom to be alone forever?’ He’s like, ‘Yeah, kind of.'”
“But anytime his friends want to go out and do something, he’s like, ‘Alright, mom, bye, see you later. I’m going here,’ and I’m like, ‘You just leave me in a heartbeat, but you don’t want me to have anybody!’ “ she quipped.
Relating to La La’s experience, Jennifer Hudson said she “can’t even get on the phone” around her son. Hudson is mom to son David Daniel Otunga Jr, 13, whom she shares with ex-fiancé David Otunga.
“Me either! I feel like it’s my dad in the house or something,” La La said jokingly.
“I’m sneaking [around], texting…this is crazy! Or he’s like, ‘Mom, let me see your phone real quick,’ like for what? What do you need my phone for?”
“It must be a mommy-son thing,” said Hudson, to which La La replied, “It definitely is.”
While Kiyan might be blocking suitors from shooting their shot, La La is still teaching him to be respectful of women, telling Jhud that she leads by example.
“Like if I get dressed for an event or something, and I’m just leaving, he might not say anything,” she said. “So, I’m like, ‘Do you think mom looks nice?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, mom, you look really nice.'”
“And I tell him just make sure you say that because women like to hear compliments. Women like people to do nice things for them. So, I start with me so he can learn from me how to do that.”
“Or if someone does something nice for you, acknowledge that, let them know that was nice or that made you feel special,” La La added. “I try to make sure he’s in touch with his feelings.”
Kiyan, who is waaayy taller than La La now (going at 6-foot-4), has followed in his father’s footsteps as a basketball player. He even got a scholarship offer from Syracuse University in November 2022.
“That’s the school his dad won the championship at, so for them to come back around and offer him a scholarship, yay for Kiyan. I’m so proud of him,” La La said, adding, “It’s just so amazing.”

Earlier this year, the Inala Beauty CEO made headlines after sharing she’s “manifesting a new man” in the New Year and referenced her BFFs, Ciara and Russell Wilson’s union, as an example. Posting a selfie donning a sexy brown one-piece, La La wrote:
“I brought in the New Year a little different this year. Kept things calm which is not my usual AT ALL, lol, but instead of being down about it, I had to remind myself maybe that’s exactly what I needed. Time to myself & time with me & Kiyan just to reflect & be grateful for all the blessings in our lives.”
She continued:
“We wrote down some goals & manifestations for 2022, so cheers to that? Wishing everyone an amazing New Year with more LOVE, more BLESSINGS, GOOD HEALTH, and most of all, HAPPINESS. Love y’all so much, Ps. I saw what YOU did for Ciara (I mean, I was around for that) and what u did for Issa and Molly from Insecure, sooooo… yeah, u know the rest.”

The BMF actress has been on the market since officially divorcing her former NBA hubby, Carmelo Anthony, in June 2021. Reportedly, the pair split in 2017 amid rumors of the hooper stepping out on her repeatedly.
