MC Lyte is finally divorced and she gets to keep all of her creative ‘works’ thanks to a legally binding prenup.
According to The Blast Lyte’s marriage was a short-lived one. She and Wyche tied the knot in August 2017 and quickly separated in January 2018.
In the court docs obtained by The Blast, the couple’s marriage was dissolved due to “irreconcilable differences.”
“Irreconcilable differences have arisen between the parties, which have led to the irremediable breakdown of the marriage, making it impossible for the parties to live together as husband and wife,” reads the official documents.
MC Lyte’s Prenuptial Agreement Will Be Upheld In Divorce
A prenup was in place and will be upheld. As for separate property between the couple, MC whose real name is Lana Michele Moorer is making out like a bandit with her own music.
“MC Lyte keeps her clothing, jewelry, watches, and personal effects in her possession, custody, or control, and earnings and accumulations before the date of marriage, during the marriage, and post-separation, her Subaru, financial accounts in her name, all furniture, furnishings, and other personal property in her possession, custody, or control. She also gets to keep her term life insurance policy.”
MC Lyte Will Keep Her Music Catalog In Divorce Settlement
The “Ruffneck” rapper rose to fame in the 90s as a female emcee alongside Queen Latifah, Yo-Yo, Monie Love, and other female emcees. In the divorce, she “gets to keep her music catalogs, and other creative property, including royalties in connection her creative works.”
Plus, each party is waiving their right to spousal support. Back in 2022, we broke the news of the rapper’s wishes to move on from her husband of three years. The Grammy-nominated rapper met her husband on Match.com. Wyche claims he had no clue that he was dating someone of notoriety until a friend suggested he google her.
He told Essence magazine at the time of their marriage, “At that moment I asked the Lord for my wife for the first time. The following week I met Lana.”
It was only last August that the former marine and entrepreneur supposedly didn’t want to sign the papers to let MC free.
“I’m actually still going through it,” Lyte told the ladies of The Real during a visit in February of this year.
“I think when the press got a hold of it I think people thought we were [still together]. I had just filed. So we’re still going through it right now.” She admitted to the woman that she was “distraught” for a moment there.
“It’s hard in the beginning, but when you realize to have happiness doesn’t mean that you have to remain together, and it doesn’t mean that you are a failure because the marriage failed. It’s all ego so you just have to be able to let go.”
She also shared that Wyche is really holding up the process, “Because he doesn’t want to sign the papers.”
Lyte was so laser-focused on getting past this very long divorce that she admitted to holding off on dating even though she could probably do so if she wanted to.
“I don’t want to date until my marriage is completely over because I don’t want to bring any baggage in. I want it to be so clean and clean.”
Feels like we need to bring this back!
