In less than a year, 23-year-old Ice Spice has taken the music scene by storm with her infectious single “Munch.”
The rapper has already reached levels of success that even seasoned artists would envy.
According to Vibe, the rapper burst onto the scene in 2021–yet within a year, she had already skyrocketed to unimaginable heights.
Her talent and charisma caught the attention of rap heavyweights like Cardi B, Drake, and Soulja Boy, and she collaborated with icons like Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, and Pink Panthress.
Ice’s rapid ascent was extraordinary, as she rubbed shoulders with A-listers at events like the Met Gala, Summer Jam, Rolling Loud, Hot 97’s, and the Governor’s Ball.
She even teamed up with Taylor Swift on her Eras tour.
Some People Think Her Skin Tone Has Helped Her
Some speculate that colorism helped propel her career forward.
In a recent interview, Ice Spice addressed these remarks.
“I have seen those opinions. I feel like that’s not something personal to me. I feel like that’s been the conversation for generations and forever, since the beginning of time. I try not to feed into negativity because I also see that when people are trying to make that point, it’s not out of a good place. [They end up putting] somebody else down.”
One artist often compared to Ice Spice is Flo Milli, whose journey has been different.
While fans celebrated their joint performance at Hot 97’s Summer Jam, some created unnecessary discourse about their appearances due to Flo’s darker complexion.
i wish yall would stop with this tired ass narrative yall love to push about my career

Flo Milli expressed her frustration on social media.
“i wish yall would stop with this tired a** narrative yall love to push about my career. And stop mentioning me while trying to degrade another artist its WEIRDDD.”
The rapper highlighted her personal growth and success, going from financial struggle to traveling the world with her talent at the tender age of 23.

Ice Spice said she DONT think COLORISM played a part in her COME UP. She even referred to the colorism DEBATE as NEGATIVITY. That’s called GASLIGHTING! It’s not negativity. It’s a REAL issue. It’s the reason she blew up BEFORE Doechii. Same reason Latto, Doja & Cardi ever got ON.

Colorism is SYSTEMIC REALITY. It’s not about ice spice or any individual light skinned or dark skinned person—the reality is that the closer you are to whiteness the more privileged you are. Stop trying to dismiss systemic realities. Colorism is as real as racism—PERIOD. https://t.co/im0UWHvyEl pic.twitter.com/NUrCBCLkMb

I think y’all misconstrued what Ice Spice was saying….
“That’s not something personal to me” meaning She don’t think the conversation was a PERSONAL DIG towards HER****
That was not her saying she didn’t care or going blind eye to colorism. ?

If we’re going to actually speak on COLORIST/COLORISM let’s do it correctly and non- bias Bc i swear this conversation never existed until Ice Spice linked with Nicki. Everyone was a munch a few months ago. What happened? ? pic.twitter.com/7sj93BfRuh

Not saying Ice Spice is doing this but light skinned people act like colorism starts and ends at some sort of aesthetic “preference” when it’s much deeper than that. Dark skinned Black women for example are more likely to get declined for apartments, medical support, cars, etc https://t.co/SYp0RscCPY

Why is Ice Spice the poster girl for colorism when y’all let countless of lighter skinned women come through the door with little to no backlash at all? pic.twitter.com/nmb4rpv3nv

Y’all know people can discuss colorism and how Ice Spice benefits from it, while also still liking her right?
