In a recent video, Ethiopian Influencer and Tiktoker @yorddii shared a video about the length of her hair. She attributes her growth to oils, sharing her favorites on Tiktok.
The video garnered a ton of attention, but not all of it was positive, some viewers dismissed the premise of the video saying that the reason her hair grew to that length is that she is mixed.
Yordi is 100% sub-Saharan African, you will notice she shares her DNA test at the end.

We have heard this story before! People still believe that black folk cannot grow long hair, but this idea is very surface level, and there is so much more to it.
The shape of your hair strand is solely dependent on the shape of the follicle on your head. The shape of your hair follicle is determined by your genetics.
You can be BLACK and have follicles that produce stands that are fine, coarse, curly, kinky, wavy, zigzag, and even straight.
If your hair strands come out of your head, tightly coiled, it is harder for you to retain length because the hair tends to tangle more often in comparison to other hair types.
If your hair comes out of your head, straight or wavy, it is easier for you to retain length in comparison to others with kinkier hair types.
Both sets of individuals can be 100% BLACK! It is actually ridiculous to argue about hair growth from a race/heritage perspective, it is actually better to explore our differences around hair growth based on culture and biology.
