R&B Singer Sza is known for a lot of things: her unique singing voice, those adorable freckles, and the one thing her fans love and have wondered how to achieve throughout her career–her curls!
Sza’s signature hairstyles are always voluminous, healthy-looking, and the best part–pretty easy to achieve! Here are 2 methods you can use to get this particular look.
Method 1: Crochet Braids and Flexi Rods
Things You’ll Need:
- Crochet Hair (Recommended: Afri Naptural Definition Blowout)
- Blow Dryer
- Flexi Rods (Recommended: 3/4 – 1 inch in size)
- Paddle Brush
- Hot Water
- A Cup
- Towel (optional)
Directions:
Crochet your hair in whichever method you think is best for you. The invisible knot crochet method is the best option if you’re aiming for a natural and realistic style. I recommend Afri Naptrual Definition Blowout hair because the texture still has a bit of a natural kink after blowing it out further.
After installing your crochet braids, take your paddle brush and lightly brush out the kinks in the hair. Use your blow dryer on the lowest heat setting and quickly blow through the hair for a smoother blowout texture.
Start rolling and securing the flexi rods. Place them a few inches away from the root because you don’t want the curls to be too tight or uniform. After they are secured, dip them into a cup of hot water. Also, drape a towel over your shoulders to catch any dripping water.
Dry and set for as long as needed, then gently take out flexi rods and separate curls with your fingers. Add volume by gently paddle brushing brush up under curls that are placed at the bottom and middle of your head.
Method 2: Sza Wand Curls
Things You’ll Need:
- Blow Dryer (Optional)
- Curling Wand
- Extensions (Recommended: Blowout Texture Clip-Ins or Outre Annie Half Wig)
- Comb
- Brush
Directions:
If you are curling your real hair, I highly suggest that you wash, blow-dry, and section off your hair before curling. Also, apply a heat protectant to prevent any heat damage. You may also be better off using the no-heat flexi rod method.
If you’re using clip-ins, blowout and part your hair and place a full set of clip-ins before curling. For a half wig, part less than an inch of hair around your hairline and braid or flat twist the rest down. Secure the wig in place and blend your leave out.
After the basics of your hairstyle are down, section off medium size pieces and begin to curl your hair. Hold the wand away from your face and wrap your hair from top to the tip as shown below:
After the curls are settled, separate them gently. Add volume by backcombing underneath the curls and loosening them at the roots with a paddle brush. Spritz with a sheen spray or leave it as is.
