Summer is well on its way and now is the perfect time to start focusing on proper health and wellness practices that’ll get you the body you desire!
From cultivating the right eating habits to making sure your mindset stays on point, getting healthy truly is a process.
With that being said, we know that getting started all on your own can be a bit of a daunting task, but no worries—we got you, girl!
Here are 4 free apps that’ll help you reach your fitness goals by keeping you aligned in mind, body, and soul.
Streaks: Habit-Tracking App
Sticking to a goal is so much more rewarding when you’re able to track your progress. Streaks is a habit-tracking app that not only allows you to see all of the work you’ve been doing, but it’s a full-blown to-do list that actually assists you in forming better habits.
You have the option to choose one of their preset habits or create your own (up to 12 at a time!) and set your goal. Streaks do a good job of making health-monitoring fun by subtly gamifying your dedication to staying consistent.
For example, if you’ve committed yourself to work out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, it’ll support you as you keep up your streak. But as soon as you miss a day, you officially break the chain and your progress resets itself to a big, fat zero.
Sounds like a challenge? Good, it’s supposed to be! Streaks is a great app to help you feel good about your dedication to growth, but will also help you hold yourself accountable.
Make My Plate: Meal Planning App
Hiring a dietician or nutritionist can get pretty pricey, and have you tried some of these mainstream diet plans? Bland, too small portions, and just unenjoyable to eat, overall. Cooking healthy meals at home isn’t exactly a walk in the park, either, but the Make My Plate, or MMP, app might change your mind!
Make My Plate is an award-winning meal-planning app that helps you put together the right ingredients for a healthy meal based on your caloric and nutrition goals and guidelines. The best part? It visually recreates the meals on your list! That’s right, you can see what your food is going to look like on your plate before you even cook it up and serve it.
On MMP you’ll find exclusive recipes with various ingredients so you won’t get bored, and a unique, visual interface that helps you get the hang of portion control. This app is perfect for beginners and the “been there done that” crowd, alike. Plus, it’s super helpful in maintaining your weight, as well.
Sweat: Fitness App for Women
There are tons of workout apps and platforms out there on the market, but an app solely dedicated to women and our very unique body goals is rare. So when we ran into the SWEAT Fitness App for women, we were immediately ready to sign up and get started!
This pretty-in-pink fitness app is dedicated to creating a safe space for women from diverse backgrounds to comfortably and safely work out.
Instead of throwing you right into the deep-end of fitness, SWEAT does the healthy thing by allowing you to progress gradually—only upping the intensity after you’ve reached certain capability goals and milestones.
One of the most underrated parts of the app is the diversity of trainers! Here you’ll find a great mix of women of different ethnicities, body types, and social backgrounds guiding you through your workout. So black women, no worries! You’ll feel super comfortable here.
The app starts with a week-long free trial and then is $20 a month. That sounds pretty steep, but it offers all the health benefits of the gym, except no equipment is required and there’s absolutely no judgement from anyone in the SWEAT community.
I AM: Daily Affirmations App
No matter what your objective is, achieving any goal in life starts with having the right mindset. If you’re someone who struggles with negativity to the point that it blocks you from taking practical and realistic steps toward your goals, then the I AM: Daily Affirmations app is the perfect back pocket-motivator for you.
I AM doesn’t come with any fuss and honestly, no-frills either.
It’s a simple app that delivers relevant, uplifting affirmations to your phone via notifications a few times a day. In fact, you can actually schedule notifications to fit your needs.
Need help getting up in the morning? They got you. Struggling with inspiration mid-workday? They got you, again!
One thing about I AM: they’re an app that knows how much mental, emotional, and spiritual health can ebb and flow throughout the days, weeks, and months, so they make sure to keep those affirmations coming.
And if you’re concerned about the quotes being cheesy, don’t be! They’re quite mature, focused on what’s authentic, and genuine.
Say one with me:
“I am perfect for myself, I don’t need to be perfect for anyone else.”
