Keke Palmer is a vibe, a force of nature, and everything a Queen is. From how she embodies every role she’s thrown into (hello, Alice) to how she owns every damn interview and literally speaks – twangy, unapologetic, and rapid-fire like she’s been blasted off a cannon, this Queen really doesn’t come to play.
And her best-kept secret to living a vibrant, holistic life? Intentioned self-care. Yes, the one thing that helps her keep her sanity and machine running is pouring into herself as often as possible.
With that said, now, let’s take a deep dive into Keke’s favorite wellness practices and how they’ve helped her become the force of a woman that she is.
Adopt A Positive Morning Routine
Your morning routine helps set the tone for the day, allowing you to control your schedule rather than having the schedule controlling you.
So, for her mornings, Keke loves checking her phone (emails and whatnot), then she either reads scripture or meditates.
After getting her Zen on, Ms. Palmer heads to the bathroom, where she does her skincare routine.
In the shower, Keke also tries to relax as much as she can – a good hot shower packed with a body-hugging conditioner like the Olay In-Shower Rinse-Off Body Conditioner ($7.99) plus some tunes (DeBarge, Alicia Keys, and some soul-lifting oldies are Keke’s favorites) preps her for the day.
Yes, To Peloton Rides & Protein-Packed Breakfasts
While she loves a good Pilates session, Keke’s favorite go-to workout involves a Peloton. Saddling up on the machine, smiling at an instructor’s affirmations, and assenting to their challenges to get that ‘glazed donut status, STAT’ speaks to her soul and has kicked her ass far more than she’d ever anticipated.
Keke also loves protein pancakes, eggs, and turkey bacon for breakfast. And sometimes, an excellent shake, some Vital Proteins, bananas, and strawberries come in handy. It enables her to maintain her incredible bod and enjoy good health.
Be Intentional About Your Mindfulness Practices
The Nope star is willing to try anything to help her be her best. Cryotherapy, Reiki, sensory deprivation tubs, sound baths, you name them – she’s tried to do all of them to help calm her mind and nerves.
One thing that individuals she admires have in common is that their mindsets are strong and agile. They choose situations that help them move forward, and so in that light, Keke has chosen to adapt to the habit of improving her mindset.
Even when she’s driving, she tries to work on herself. She’ll listen to Wayne Dyer’s Wishes Fulfilled, which helps her become more assertive and ready for anything the day throws her.
Keep Saying No
In a recent interview with Women’s Health, Ms. Palmer expressed how saying no has helped her become stronger and more grounded.
‘I realized that sometimes, it’s hard to say no because we don’t trust ourselves,’ she said. ‘We don’t trust that the opportunity will come again if we say no. Or that we’ve made the right choice. Or perhaps, that if we say no, we’ll be offending someone.’
‘But saying yes to too many things was stressing me out, so no was the best next thing. And it worked.’
Anxieties Are Best Dealt With Through Journaling
Keke loves journaling, and she purposes to do it every single night. She writes down at least two things that made her day great, which she says helps her learn to be grateful for what she has.
It could be someone who gave her a warm smile, some good advice she received, or the hot cup of coffee she gulped down – every small detail counts.
She also believes in reading positive books to gain good energy, napping (it can do wonders for your mind), calling her close friends, and praying. When she feels troubled, she says, ‘God, thanks so much for making me a strong and positive individual, no matter what I’m going through.’
Affirming bad feelings and thoughts helps her control her mind by switching scripts and making it reason differently.
CBD Comes In Handy
If she’s having trouble sleeping, Keke reaches out for CBD – but as a last resort.
Most of the time, Keke tells herself a riveting story, thinks about things she wants like what it’ll be like having kids, or manifests positive things in her life, which helps take the pressure off trying to get some shut-eye.
Doing so helps her sleep like a baby, and she wakes up with nothing but positive vibrations and good intentions.
