If you are a parent then you are well aware that sometimes we do not always get it right and most of the time, we are just out here doing our best.
Every generation has the same goal, take the good from what our parents gave us, improve on it and leave the bad stuff behind.
Kelly Rowland mother of seven-year-old Titan and one-year-old Noah recently sat down with Angie Martinez and they spoke candidly about their childhood, childhood trauma, mommy issues, daddy issues, and more.
She also gave some insight into her gentle parenting journey with her children.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, GP is defined as a parenting style that relies on empathy, understanding and respect, something that Kelly reiterated during the interview.
She said while she does find some things ridiculous, she has been actively practicing parts of the Gentle Parenting style that works for her.
“You know, gentle parenting which is just like, ‘Don’t yell at them,’ you know, right when something happens. I love it. Some of it makes sense to me and some of it doesn’t. “Gentle parenting is trying to break the generational curse of talking at your kid and making them feel seen and respected.”
She gave the example of Titan storming up the stairs and her approach to it versus how she was raised if she were to storm up the stairs.
She said she would say to Titan “I understand you’re upset right now, but that is very disrespectful…” vs ‘You better keep your a** in the room then,’ you know what I mean?”
