Three years after the infamous shooting incident that left Megan Thee Stallion wounded, the courtroom became the battleground for emotions, pleas, and a search for justice.
Megan revealed she has endured pain every day since the incident, according to Billboard.
“Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace. Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”
Testifying on the trial stage was one thing, but for Megan, being in the same room as Tory Lanez was something she couldn’t do.
So, Megan asked that the court not take her absence for indifference.
Instead, she urged Judge David Herriford to give Tory a hefty sentence.
The Judge should have delivered a sentence on Monday, but attorneys for either side argued their cases while seven witnesses spoke in defense of Lanez.
Prosecutors were out for blood, demanding a 13-year prison sentence for Lanez, who was convicted of three felons:
- Possessing an unregistered firearm in his car
- Assault with a semiautomatic firearm
- Discharging his firearm with gross negligence
Meanwhile, Lanez’s lawyers insisted that he should only receive probation and be released from prison to enter a residential substance abuse program.
Megan Thee Stallion Testified Against Tory Lanez
Megan testified that in the summer of 2020, Lanez had fired the gun at her feet and shouted at her to dance as she walked away from their SUV.
Lanez’s father, Sonstar Peterson, tearfully revealed that his wife, Luella, had died mere days after showing the first symptoms of a rare blood disorder.
Lanez was 11 at the time of her passing.
“I don’t think anybody ever gets over that. But his music became his outlet.”
Other witnesses revealed how Lanez was constantly charitable, even before he rose to fame.
His son’s mom, Raina Cassagne, also described Lanez as “the most supportive father, the funnest father.”
Even rapper Iggy Azalea asked the Judge to give Lanez a sentence she termed “transformative, not life-destroying.”
Additionally, an LA County jail chaplain revealed that Lanez had led daily prayer groups to ease tensions in his protective custody unit.
Judge Herriford did not reveal what sentence he would give, though he said he would consider Lanez’s charitable giving and the glowing statements made about him.
However, the Judge also revealed he would consider the attempts by Lanez to “intimidate Megan” and “cast doubt on whether she was shot at all.”
Herriford added that Tory Lanez didn’t show remorse but wouldn’t let that be a factor since it was the rapper’s “right to maintain his innocence.”
In Megan’s statement, she mentioned this absence of remorse.
“[Lanez] has blamed the system, blamed the press, and as of late has tried to take advantage of his childhood trauma.”
Lanez’s father also grew emotional, and deputies had to wrestle him away from the courtroom.
Later, he apologized to Judge Herriford.
“I want to personally apologize to you. It was an overwhelming time.”
