Mya, the talented singer-songwriter, has repurposed her independent record label to Planet 9 Fine Wine.
Before gracing us with her melodic prowess, Mya’s passion for music ignited during her time as a video jockey (VJ) and dance posse member on the renowned BET show, “Teen Summit.”
It didn’t take long for her undeniable talent to catch the attention of the music industry.
And, at only 16, she signed with Interscope Records.
Mya Rocked Our Worlds From 1998
The singer’s solo career burst onto the scene in 1998 with her self-titled debut album, leaving an indelible mark in music history.
The hits kept coming, and soon her second platinum album, “Fear of Flying,” soared to new heights on the charts.
However, life took an unexpected turn when the singer’s label, Universal Motown Records, “accidentally” leaked her fourth studio album, “Liberation.”
This unfortunate mishap in Japan cost the singer thousands of dollars.
Faced with a choice between battling it out in court or embracing her artistic freedom as an independent artist, the Grammy-award-winner chose the path of liberation.
The Singer Took The High Road
“My fourth album with a major label was accidentally released once the release date changed for the fourth time. I was given the choice by my legal representation, at the time, to either go to court, which could take over a year, and sue for the money that were owed to me because the album technically came out and legally came out, or just go independent, so I decided to go independent.”
Embracing her newfound independence, Mya launched her label in 2008.
Under the umbrella of Planet 9, she took charge, serving as the executive producer, sound engineer, and financier for a remarkable collection of seven diverse compilations, as detailed in her biography.
But the performer’s ambition didn’t stop there.
She delved into uncharted territories, venturing into the realms of fashion and viniculture.
First, she tantalized fans with her alluring apparel under the banner of the Planet 9 Company.
Next, she launched Planet 9 Fine Wine in 2018–her vegan red wine company, an embodiment of sophistication and indulgence.
Prepare your taste buds, for you can buy her wine directly from the website and delve into Mya’s captivating merchandise and melodic masterpieces.
