Mental health is something many people neglect because of hectic daily routines.
So, many suffer from mental health issues like anxiety and depression without diagnosing them.
So, tennis legend Venus Williams has stepped in to address this problem.
Venus Williams Is Here To Support You
Last year, Venus helped the Women’s Tennis Association and BetterHelp to offer free therapy sessions worth $2 million.
The initiative was successful, and countless women’s lives improved.
Venus Williams has teamed up with BetterHelp to remove the stigma from those looking for professional help.
This stigma is especially prevalent in the Black community.
BetterHelp has also spent $3 million to offer free one-month access to therapy sessions.
Venus’ Story
For most of Venus’ life, she has been among the dominant players in a white-majority sport.
This experience has brought distinct challenges both off and on the tennis court.
However, Venus has become an inspiration to countless Black women that they, too, can dominate a field where they remain the minority.
The seven-time Grand Slam champion learned from a tender age that if she wanted to get the respect she deserved, she must work harder than others.
Nowadays, Venus Williams understands that what makes her tough is catering to her mental health.
The tennis star hopes she can empower people to improve their mental health and change their lives.
In Venus’ case, her parents were the ones who advised her to take her mental health seriously.
The support her parents gave allowed Venus to vastly improve her mental health and become an advocate for others.
In 2011, Venus got a Sjogren’s Syndrome diagnosis: an autoimmune disease affecting the whole body.
Her parents supported Venus and advised her to take care of her mental health.
Keep Your Mind Healthy
Venus knows not everyone has a support system like hers.
That’s why she considers BetterHelp essential and advises you to take them up on their offer.
