Depending on whom you ask, Yara Shahidi was the best thing about Black-ish and Grown-ish.
Even though she’s all grown up, Shahidi remains our cute little sister.
So, imagine the surprise we all felt when the actress announced a breakup from a relationship we didn’t know existed.
When Yara Shahidi Spilled The Beans
In an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Shahidi revealed she had just ended a three-year-long relationship.
Hold the phone!
The 22-year-old was in a serious relationship for the past three years, and no one picked up on it.
Either the grapevine is losing its touch, or Shahidi should become a secret agent.
We wouldn’t even know about this secret relationship if host Drew Barrymore didn’t ask Shahidi if she was currently interested in dating.
Shahidi’s response was modest except for the bombshell–she revealed she wasn’t sure because she liked meeting people, but it was complicated because she’d just come out of a relationship.
The actress added that she takes commitment seriously, so the three-year duration of the relationship is expected.
However, she’s taking time to focus on herself because she’d been dating for such a long time–with the added pressure of keeping everything hush-hush.
Love At First Sight
Barrymore also asked Shahidi if she believed in love at first sight.
Shahidi’s answer shouldn’t be a surprise for someone who believes in deep commitments.
The actress’ answer was yes because that’s how her parents met.
She narrated how her parents met while out with friends in Minnesota.
Shahidi’s mom saw her dad turning a corner and knew they’d be married.
The pair didn’t speak that night but couldn’t deny their attraction.
Yara Shahidi is probably not too far from being a hopeless romantic, thanks to her parents.
She’s currently in her “selfish season,” but when she’s ready to date again, the actress will have no shortage of suitors.
