Azealia Banks struggled when starting her music career.
The 31-year-old singer revealed to DAZED Magazine that she rarely got bookings, people stole her royalties, and worse.
“I was so f—–g broke that I was sleeping in a storage space. You know, famous and broke.”

The singer was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Balancing her career with the condition was a significant challenge–her peers in the industry didn’t help.
In fact, Banks’ peers avoided her like the plague because of her previous transphobic and homophobic statements.
“Everybody makes a bad joke sometimes. Like, who cares? Quentin Tarantino gets paid $500 million to make really bad jokes all the time, you know? Come on. Let me get my s— off.”
Banks got into hot water in 2015 after comparing the KKK to the LGBTQ community.
The singer apologized, but the damage was done.
The controversial singer has also had beef with Nicki Minaj, Russel Crowe, and Cardi B.
Banks Is Older And Wiser
Banks reveals that her controversies stemmed from fear and people calling her bad from a tender age.
The singer has mellowed down–at least, compared to before.
She has also grown her net worth to an impressive $3 million–she won’t sleep in a storage space anytime soon.
Most of Banks’ income stems from her music.
The time of industry big-shots giving Banks the cold shoulder has passed and she’s back to performing on stage.
Despite not releasing a new album since 2014, the singer has remained in the public eye.
She has also released several new singles and featured in other artists’ songs (like Paul Oakenfold and Mallrat).
Azealia Banks is redeeming herself, and hopefully her future will be less controversial and more artistic.
