Daphane Carter and Taia Rashid are best friends who were once at the pinnacle of their high-profile careers.
However, they took a spirited leap to launch the country’s first Black woman-owned citrus liqueur brand: Cashid Beverage Ltd Co.
While attending gatherings with loved ones, the two came up with the idea for the new company: a delightful spirit straight from the bottle, no mix-ins required!
These Best Friends Have Made A Special Brand

Over glasses of limoncello, Carter’s husband encouraged her to start a brand.
According to Yahoo!, Carter promptly roped in Rashid, who didn’t hesitate to join.
Rashid recently reminisced to Click 2, a Houston affiliate for NBC.
“I had worked corporate before. Was a stay-at-home-mom for a while because my husband worked a ton, and I was ready to transition into something else. Daphane was leaving corporate, ready to transition. So, we talked about getting into something not knowing exactly what it was going to be, and low and behold, that trip it was like a wild fire, and it’s been that since then.”
Cashid Beverage Ltd Co turned from a dream into a bustling business in just a month.
And within a year, the best friends’ products found their way to store shelves.
Their star concoctions, Daphane Raspberry Berrycello and Daphane Limoncello, blend rich agave syrup, Meyer Lemons, and vodka distilled six times over.
The duo’s mission is simple.
“Cashid Beverage Ltd Co began believing that ultra-premium liqueurs could have a special place in the current beverage landscape. Liqueurs are often looked at as a drink option for the novice drinker simply because the sweetness typically overpowers the taste of the base liqueur, allowing the producer to use lower-quality ingredients in their juice recipe. However, we firmly believe that a liqueur can be both tasty and refreshing while including the highest quality ingredients on the market.”
And the market is responding.
2023 saw them win two Silver Medals at the Bartender Spirits Awards and the coveted John Barleycorn Double Gold Award for Taste.
They also took home a Silver for their impactful Marketing and Design.
Naturally, Rashid was ecstatic.
“We are extremely pleased that our spirits performed so highly at the recent Bartenders Spirits Awards. Winning this award is particularly important to us because it shows that we are making the types of spirits that spirits drinkers actually want to buy and enjoy.”
But the party doesn’t stop at awards.
The best friends’ bustling Black-owned brand has waltzed into renowned retailers like Total Wine, Cork & Barrel Club, and Emilio’s.
And they will soon expand to Texas and Florida.
