Relationship commandments are vital for healthy and long-lasting relationships.

There are sins you or your partner can commit that will strain the relationship.

However, there are virtues you can follow that will give you a boost.

Our essential relationship commandments will keep you and your boo happy and hopefully together for life.

Avoid Wrath

Every couple fights, sooner or later.

What matters is how you handle the aftermath.

Talking things out is how you should deal with the inevitable negative feelings.

However, you shouldn’t become so toxic that your partner is terrified of being in the same room with you.

Toxic habits include:

  • Belittling
  • Threatening
  • Criticizing
  • Withdrawing
  • Stonewalling

Your partner might want to make up, but if you’re so toxic they can’t stand to be around you, the fallout from your fight will make things worse for both of you.

Don’t Give In To Lust

When relationships start, you’re often hot for each other.

However, the passion wanes, and a third party might tempt you.

If you act impulsively, you’ll undermine the love and trust in your relationship.

The best solution to avoid giving in to your lust is to spice up your relationship and lust for each other again.

You can do this by:

  • Trying new things in the bedroom
  • Meeting at a hotel and spending the night
  • Role-playing

Do Not Be Greedy

Looking out for yourself is crucial.

However, you shouldn’t prioritize yourself so much that it comes at your partner’s expense.

If they feel the relationship is only about you, resentment will build, and they might distance themselves.

Instead, find a middle ground–let them pursue their interests and show interest in their lives.

Be there for them; they will love and respect you significantly more.

Avoid Jealousy

If you’re envious whenever your partner gets attention from someone else–even a family member or friend–it probably means you’re insecure.

Insecurity shows itself when you attack your partner for saying or doing something innocent, often taking it out of context.

For instance, if you gain weight, you might assume they are calling you fat and lash out.

You can also do harmful acts like:

  • Spying on their phones
  • Belittling them
  • Keeping score of every bad thing they’ve done since you’ve known each other

To keep such negativity away from your relationship, start by growing your self-esteem.

You can do that by:

  • Talking positively about yourself, even when you don’t feel like it
  • Stop making comparisons to others because you’ll always be disappointed
  • Accept you’re not perfect
  • Work out often
  • Take care of yourself (mentally, physically, and emotionally)

This is among the most crucial relationship commandments because it can fundamentally improve your relationship and how you view yourself.

Don’t Be Complacent

This is among the most contentious relationship commandments, but hear me out.

When you start dating, your partner is drawn to your looks, how you take care of yourself, and your goals and ambitions in life.

However, you might settle into a comfort zone where you stop putting effort into your looks and even neglect your goals.

This is when your partner might claim you’re no longer the person they fell in love with, dampening your relationship.

Don’t Be Gluttonous

No, I’m not just talking about food and packing some pounds–that comes in the next point.

Instead, I’m talking about giving too much attention to a single thing, like work or social media.

For instance, you could work late most nights and only return home when your partner is asleep; you could also spend most of your time with your partner on your phone.

When you give this much focus to a habit, you become greedy to the detriment of your relationship.

Avoiding such gluttony is among the important relationship commandments to keep your partner from fading into the background of your life.

Don’t Be Overly Proud

Being proud of who you are and what you’ve accomplished is alright–good, even.

However, fear-based pride is dangerous, and avoiding it is among the most crucial relationship commandments you can follow.

When you’re proud for the wrong reasons, you can turn a disagreement into a full-blown argument because you won’t admit being wrong.

You might also avoid sharing your real feelings with your partner, eventually forming a rift between you.

Relationship Commandments Are Essential For Happiness

A happy relationship makes a happy person, and vice-versa.

Following these relationship, commandments gives you and your partner the best chance to be together for a lifetime.
