Diddy’s Harlem Charter School was nowhere near what he promised.
According to The Cut, the school promised “elite education,” promising:
“[To] provide historically disadvantaged students with the college and career readiness skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.”
However, the institution was full of “chaos and fear,” rarely giving underserved kids life-changing opportunities.
The expose showed that the school was full of neglected children, teacher shortages, unstable leadership, miscommunication with parents, and turbulent violence.
The supposedly elite school also had a bedbug infestation that parents only learned about through their children.
Diddy Painted A False Picture Of The School
Diddy appeared in several photos with the children and founder, Dr. Steve Perry.
However, he apparently was minimally involved with the school.
The school even called the cops on kids who “violated” their strict uniform policy.
An anonymous parent expressed their frustration:
“[Diddy] was supposed to be an inspiration to those children, coming from what you might consider the hood—and he was not.”
Capital Prep Schools denied the parents’ statements.
Shenique Coston, the school’s director of communication and development, even accused the claims of being “fabrications.”
“We accept and are saddened that some scholars and colleagues were not pleased with their experience. However, we affirmatively state that many of the allegations included in your fact-checking list are fabrications.”
In November 2023, Diddy’s partnership with the school ended amid his sexual assault allegations.
Dr. Perry released a statement on the issue:
“Following a comprehensive evaluation, a decision has been made to end the partnership between Capital Preparatory Schools and Sean Combs. While this decision was not made lightly, we firmly believe it is in the best interest of our organization’s health and future.”
